HC summons Cox’s Bazar DC

The High Court summoned Tuesday the Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar for not complying with its order for evicting illegal establishments from Jilonhja mouja.
An HC bench comprising justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and justice Md Ashraful Kamal asked DC Md Ruhul Amin to appear before the court on September 9 to explain the matter, according to a news agency.
Court sources said the government allocated 54 acres of land for government officers and employees at Jilongja mouja in Cox’s Bazar in 2006 but the allocation was cancelled later.
Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers’ Association (Bela) filed a petition with the HC seeking its direction for evicting some illegal establishments built on the land.
On June 8, 2011 the High Court directed the government to evict the illegal establishments and submit a compliance report to the court.
As the court directive was not implemented, Bela filed a petition seeking the DC’s court appearance.
