Friday, 15 January 2010

The High Court (HC) has set January 19 to hear the petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman for staying proceedings of the Zia Orphanage Trust case.
An HC Division Bench of Justice Md Abdul Wahhab and Justice Md Abdur Razzak fixed the date Thursday, reports bdnews24.com.
Earlier on January 6, another HC Bench had referred the petitions to the Chief Justice, as Attorney General Mahbubey Alam questioned its authority to hear the petitions.
The case, filed with Ramna police station in July 2008, accuses Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and four others of embezzling more than Tk 20 million from the Zia Orphanage Trust, which allegedly existed only on paper.
The Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court took cognisance of the charges last September.
