HC upholds death of five for murder in Kushtia

The High Court (HC) has upheld death sentences of five convicts out of six for murder of rickshaw-van puller Abu Bakkar Siddique in Kushtia, reports UNB, reports BSS.
A HC bench comprising Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq pronounced the judgment after hearing on the death reference and jail appeal of the six convicts.
The court upheld death sentence of Sazzad, Majed, Shuk Chan, Rashidul Islam and Monser Ali. It, however, commuted the death sentence of Kalai alias Jalil to life imprisonment.
Deputy Attorney General Amit Dasgupta stood for the state, while Advocates SM Shahjahan and AKM Fajlul Haque Khan Farid argued for the appellants. Advocate Md Hafizur Rahman Khan took part in the hearing as state-appointed counsel for Rashidul Islam, who is yet to be arrested and was tried in absentia.
