HDI shows a positive Bangladesh

Saturday, 2 August 2014

Hardly do we come across good news about Bangladesh in international media and we always hog the limelight for wrong reasons. That Bangladesh has moved one notch up in the Human Development Index (HDI) makes us happy.  We are among the 18 countries that showed extraordinary progress in human development. Bangladesh has immense potentials, but unfortunately due to political instability, corruption and lack of transparency we do not see the desired development. The people of Bangladesh are hard-working and their demands are simple. Given proper environment and opportunity they can bring a positive change.
Without effective democracy we cannot expect corruption to reduce or transparency to prevail. The present government deserves appreciation for bringing positive changes in the HDI. We have to impart skill among our workforce and turn them as asset and not liability. The country's literacy rate is on the increase and women are also coming up fast and participating in the national development. In another twenty years we hope to see Bangladesh among the developed countries. It is no longer a pipe dream, it is very much achievable.
