Health Minister seeks UK's help in country's health sector

British High Commissioner (HC) Stephen Evans Sunday met Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque at his office in the city to discuss the government's pledge in country's health sector and United Kingdom's (UK) cooperation in this regard, reports UNB.
Terming the UK as the main development partner of Bangladesh's health sector, the minister requested the British envoy to extend their cooperation in different sectors during the tenure of the present democratic government.
He also recalled the cooperation of UK Department for International Development (DFID) particularly in health, nutrition and population sectors in Bangladesh.
Referring to DFID's support in providing health voucher to the poor expecting mothers to ensure mother health, Ruhal Huq said "It's a successful programme in ensuring mother health.
He sought help from the development partner countries and agencies particularly from the UK for imparting training to the health managers for developing the standard of management in health sector.
Stephen Evans praised the government, NGO and other private organisations' cooperation in Bangladesh's health sector.
Apprising the High Commissioner of a few of government's election pledges on the health sector, the minister said the present government was emphasising on ensuring health service to poor, underprivileged and marginal population.
