Health sector in poor state

Many clinics are operating in Dhaka illegally. If so many illegal clinics can operate in the capital, then the situation outside Dhaka can easily be imagined. Unscrupulous businessmen are fleecing people in the name of medical treatment. We often read reports in newspapers on arrests of fake doctors by law enforcing agencies and closing down of their illegal clinics. Medical treatment has become a lucrative business these days. When we go to a doctor he or she prescribes a lot of pathological tests and refers to particular diagnostic clinics. It is a common knowledge that the doctors get a sizeable commission out of it.
It is really a matter of great regret that a noble profession has become a way to mint money at any cost. This has been going on for a long time to immense sufferings of the patients. The profession is now devoid of honesty and integrity and has become a happy hunting ground of dishonest and immoral activists. I think it is high time that the health ministry rooted out the clinics operating illegally across the country and gave the helpless patients a respite. We know from various sources that fake medicines are being traded indiscriminately, which is also a matter of grave concern. I hope the concerned authorities shall take a tough stand and bring back much needed discipline in our health sector.
