KHULNA, Nov 27 (UNB): People, especially mother and children, in three upazilas of the district are deprived of healthcare facilities due to various reasons, among them mainly vulnerable communication system.
Poverty and lack of awareness are among the other reasons that have put Dakope, Paikgachha and Koyra on top of upazilas facing health risks.
Besides, setting up of 24 community hospitals in the upazilas has become uncertain as the authorities could not yet acquire the necessary land for those.
Health Department sources said heath assistants and health inspectors are being given training on national nutrition service in every upazila, union and ward to reduce health risk of pregnant women and their children.
At present, 189 community clinics out of 217 are operating in different parts of the district, aiming to reach the healthcare services to the people's doorsteps.
Four community clinics are under construction while construction works of 24 community clinics are not being possible as the authorities have failed to acquire land for those.
Through the community clinics, the health workers are working to raise awareness about maternal and child healthcare.
The people of the three upazilas are deprived of the healthcare service for there not being any community clinic, and consequently, the government's initiative to reduce the maternal and child healthcare risk is being seriously hampered. Connected, Khulna Civil Surgeon Mohammad Yeasin Ali Sardar said they could not manage any land for the construction of the community clinics in the 3 upazilas of the district.
Besides, the vulnerable condition of the communication system also makes it difficult for the people to get required healthcare services.
Admitting lack of manpower, Yeasin Ali, said the inhabitants of Koyra, Paikgachha and Dakope upazilas are seriously deprived of healthcare service due to lack of awareness, poverty and vulnerable condition of the communication system.
