Hearing of ex-SP Babul Akter's plea deferred

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 19: The court deferred the date of hearing of the application of the case of former SP Babul Akter to September 25. It earlier fixed the date on September 19.
According to sources, on September 8, former SP Babul Akter filed a case under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act, claiming that he was tortured while in custody of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). Six officials including the PBI Chief Banaj Kumar Majumder have been accused in the case.
Babul Akter, who has been in jail since January 9, 2021, filed the case through his lawyers in the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Dr. Begum Zebunnesa on September 8 last. The accused has been charged under Section 15(1) of the Torture and Custodial Deaths (Prevention) Act, 2013 and Section 5(2) of the relevant Act.
Other accused in the case are Chattogram district SP Nazmul Hasan, Chattogram metro SP Naima Sultana, former PBI inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma, A.K.M. Mohiuddin Salim and Kazi Enayet Kabir.
