Hearing on Khaleda's contempt petition today
Wednesday, 1 December 2010
Hearing on the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's contempt of court petition against the government scheduled for Monday in the Supreme Court was not held due to hartal. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told reporters that the hearing was deferred today as the Appellate Division did not sit surmising that the lawyers concerned would not be able to appear because of countrywide hartal enforced by BNP.
Khaleda, also former prime minister, filed the contempt petition on November 23 following her eviction from her Dhaka Cantonment house despite a petition for leave to appeal against the High Court verdict was pending with the Appellate Division.
