Hearing on petition seeking remand of Rony Tuesday
Monday, 29 June 2015
Police have sought to take into their custody Bakhtiar Alam Rony for the third time over a shooting that left two people dead at Dhaka’s Eskaton. MP Pinu Khan’s son Rony was produced in court after a four-day remand by Detective Branch SI Deepak Kumar Das, the case’s Investigating Officer, on Sunday. Auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali, 40, and rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim, 25, were killed when shots were randomly fired from a vehicle reportedly driven by Rony early on April 14. The investigators sought 7-day remand to question Rony, accused of firing the shots from the black colour Land Cruiser Prado under the ‘influence of drugs’. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam fixed a hearing for June 30 (Tuesday) after Rony’s lawyer refused to take part in hearing saying the defendant was ill. The vehicle from where the bullets were shot is registered in the name of reserved seat MP Pinu Khan, who is also the general secretary of Mahila Awami League, the ruling party’s woman wing, according to a news agency.
