Heavy rain likely in six divisions
FE REPORT | Monday, 6 July 2026
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across several parts of the country over the next 72 hours due to the influence of a monsoon depression over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coast.
In a weather warning, the BMD said from 1:00 pm Sunday, heavy rainfall (44-88 mm in 24 hours) to very heavy rainfall (more than 88 mm in 24 hours) is likely at isolated places in the divisions of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet.
The department cautioned that the intense rainfall could trigger temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas of the Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan cities.
It also warned that the persistent downpours could increase the risk of landslides in parts of the hilly areas of Chattogram division.
