Heavy rain scuppers Germany-Serbia stadium practice

Friday, 18 June 2010

PORT ELIZABETH, June 17 (AFP): Germany and Serbia have had to cancel training sessions at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium here Thursday to protect the pitch after heavy rain.
The two sides, who meet in a World Cup Group D tie on Friday, have had to make alternative arrangements after being informed by FIFA that they could not hold their traditional eve-of-match training at the venue.
As a result Germany have delayed their arrival in this Eastern Cape port, rearranging their schedule to hold a training session at their World Cup base in Pretoria before flying to Port Elizabeth.
The good news for both teams is that the cold snap has lifted and the forecast for Friday is bright.
