Heavy vehicles plying on highways banned during Eid

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said heavy vehicles will not be allowed to use highways across the country three days before Eid-ul-Azha and three days after the festival for easing the travel of the Eid-ul-Azha holidaymakers. The minister said this while talking to reporters after inaugurating two bridges at Shahidnagar and Jinglatoli in Comilla district. Assuring that the home-goers will not face any trouble on highways during their journeys, Quader said the engineers of Roads and Highways division in every district will remain ready to immediately solve any road-related problems. Highway police will also remain alert to avoid road accidents and traffic jams, he added. The minister also urged the authorities concerned to remove all the billboards, including the political one, installed beside highways as early as possible, according to a news agency.
