Weekly Tea Market
Heavy withdrawals in all categories
Thursday, 20 December 2018
The market opened on a fairly good note but demand weakened thereafter in the weekly auction held in Srimangal on Monday last, according to a statement of Bangladesh Tea Board.
There were heavy withdrawals in all categories particularly low medium and plain types. Blenders were the mainstay of the market whilst there was a little support from the Loose tea buyers.
Dusts were an easier market.
CTC LEAF: As many as 45,106 packages of Current Season and 70 packages of Old Season Teas on offer met with a fairly good demand at the commencement of the sale which slackened as it continued.
BROKENS: A few good liquoring Brokens initially met with a fairly good demand and were firm whilst other were in less demand and sold at easier rates often by Taka 5.0- to Taka 7.0.
However, from the second half of the sale much less demand was in evidence resulting in heavy withdrawals. Plainer teas suffered the worst and only a negligible weight was sold.
FANNINGS: Likewise, a similar trend prevailed in the Fannings category where a few bright liquoring invoices sold well but all others faced a discriminating market and a large weight of teas were withdrawn without bids especially the plain types.
CTC DUST: As many as 7,526 packages of Current Season Teas on offer met with quite a good demand but at easier levels. Good liquoring varieties sold well at a drop of Taka 5.0 to Taka 7.0 following quality.
The remainder met with less demand and was also easier with more withdrawals. Blenders lent strong support with only fair interest from the Loose tea buyers.
