Hectic jute cultivation going on in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Apr 22: Cultivation process of jute is going on in full swing in Nilphamari district. Two varieties of jute are being cultivated in the district out of which one is a local variety and the other is Tossa.
Sources said Tossa variety of jute is being cultivated in more than 80 per cent of land by the farmers and in the rest of the land local variety of jute is cultivated. Another variety of jute, cultivated very rarely in the high sandy lands, is called Mesta which is to be cultivated at the end of this month of Baishakh.
Sources added jute cultivation may suffer a setback due to a no rain situation over the last two months in the region.
DAE sources said this year's target of jute cultivation in the district is in 12770 hectares of land out of which local variety to be cultivated in 1831 hectares of land and Tossa variety in 10939 hectares of land.
