Help keep food mkt stable, BDR chief asks Ctg traders

CHITTAGONG, Mar 18: With a view to resist abnormal price hike of the different food items, including the essential ones, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Director General had a meeting with the members of the business community in the port city Sunday.
The BDR DG asked businessmen and traders to preserve a list of the DOs of four essential items issued by the importers of consumer goods so that the concerned government agency can examine it any time, sources said.
The BDR chief also called upon the local businessmen to help the government control the food markets for mitigating the sufferings of the commoners.
The meeting which was held at the Bhatiary Golf and Country Club was attended, among others, by the BDR Director General Shakil Ahmad, PHP Group Chairman Sufi Mizanur Rahman, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President Mahbubul Alam and S Alam Group Chairman Saiful Alam.
The BDR chief in his address said a section of DO traders resort to enhancing the price of the different food items creating artificial crisis through changing hands of DOs from time and again.
Despite having sufficient stock of food items, the prices of different items of consumer goods have put common people into a state of sufferings, he added.
Considering the plight of people the BDR chief urged the members of the business community to extend their cooperation to the government in reducing the prices of the consumer goods, specially the food items.
The business community in the district also pointed out different related aspects and assured him of all possible cooperation to keep the prices stable in the markets, sources added.
