High level UN panel meets press today

A high level three -member panel of the United Nations (UN) will meet the journalists today (Saturday) to share the statement of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon about the upcoming parliamentary polls of Bangladesh, reports BSS.
The press briefing will be held at Hotel Sonargaon at 3:30 pm, a press release revealed Friday.
Francesc Vendrell, head of the panel, and former UN Assistant Secretary General, Bhojraj Pokharel, Chief Election Commissioner of Nepal and Aracelly Santana, former Deputy Director of the UN Electoral Assistance Division will attend the press conference.
The panel of UN, who will visit Bangladesh from December 27 to January 3, will report to the UN secretary general on the conduct of the electoral process and developments in the immediate post- election period.
The team, undertook its first visit to Bangladesh from November 23-29, met the head of the caretaker government and other senior officials, as well as election authorities, representatives of political parties, civil society and development partners.
