High migration cost does not help economy

Thursday, 18 October 2018

Migration cost from Bangladesh to other countries is high, when compared with neighbouring countries. This trend is quite bad for the economy. According to a World Bank study, Bangladeshis pay the highest for migration and often it takes between two to three years for them to get back their initial investment.
If migration cost can be decreased, then more young people will be encouraged to go and work abroad. This will also help the economy get more remittance and have a more robust foreign currency reserve.
Migration costs can be reduced drastically by cutting out the middle-men. This group of people take away a large chunk of the money. Hopefully, migration experts, the government, manpower exporting agencies and others can work together and come up with sustainable solutions that can help the Bangladesh economy.
