High mustard output expected in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, Dec 9 (BSS): Production of mustard may exceed target in the district this year due to suitable climatic condition and less pest attack in the crop fields.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said a total of 16,500 hectares of land have been brought under mustard cultivation during the current season.
About five thousand hectares of land were brought under the cultivation schemes in char areas of Matlab and Chandpur Sadar Upazilas.
The farmers also cultivated early variety of mustard and they expect a bumper production of the crop this year.
Agriculture experts said a record production of mustard can be achieved this time if the plantations could be saved from pest attack.
The sources said about 16,400 metric tonnes of mustard is expected to be produced in the district this year.
Necessary seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and other agriculture inputs have been supplied to the farmers on time.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Krishi Bank and other government banks have distributed loans on easy terms and conditions for boosting the production.
