FE Report
The government is sending a high-powered delegation to three European countries in the first week of next month to explore the potentials of exporting manpower and boosting trade, commerce and investment, diplomatic sources said.
They said the delegation to be headed by foreign adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury is expected to leave the country on November 6.
During the three-day long visit to Norway, Sweden and Denmark, sources said the delegation will meet the authorities concerned of those countries to discuss bilateral issues.
Besides, sources said the delegation will also meet the business leaders of those countries to convince them to invest in Bangladesh.
They said the Scandinavian countries are expected to recruit a large number of skilled and semi-skilled work force from least developed countries (LDCs) including Bangladesh by next couple years, as their working population is decreasing by 10 per cent every year.
The countries are likely to recruit manpower under bilateral arrangement following a delay of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) of Mode-4 of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on labour movement coming into force.
