High-rise buildings changing Khulna landscape

KHULNA, May 24: The construction of a number of high-rise buildings has been started in port cum industrial city Khulna. Most of the construction work of a 20-storied building has been completed and another 25-storied building is in progress.
Multistoried residential buildings are also being constructed in Khulna city besides commercial buildings. The investment in high-rise commercial and residential buildings has increased due to activities of Mongla Port and expansion of industrial area of Khulna.
Khulna Development Authority (KDA) source said that at present two high-rise buildings are being constructed in Khulna city. Both the buildings are being constructed according to building code and approved by the concerned departments including KDA, KCC, Environment Department and Fire Service Department.
Of them Destiny International Business Centre (25-storied) is being constructed by Destiny Group on opposite side of KDA New Market and Delta Life Tower (20-storied) being constructed by Delta Life Insurance Company at Sonadanga bypass road of the city.
The construction of more high rise buildings are going on in city's Mojid Soroni, KDA Avenue, Ahsan Ahmed Road, South Central Road, In front of Circuit House and Sonadanga Residential Area.
Islami Bank Hospital building at Shantidham square, City Palace at Hazi Moshin Road, National Bank building, Shilpa Bank, Hotel Royal, Hotel Castle Salama and Hotel Tiger Garden were constructed as high-rises in the city few years ago. Besides, KDA sources said that a plan has been undertaken to construct a ten-storied building with forty flats at Sonadanga by pass road which will be completed within two years after approval from the works ministry.
Old woman killed by miscreants
Another report says : An old woman Razia Sultana (72) mother of a garments trader Asaduzzaman was killed by miscreants at Prantika residential area of the Khulna city Monday evening and the miscreants also looted valuable goods and cash worth about Tk 10 million.
Police and local source said that Kakon, wife of Asaduzzaman, went out from her residence Monday afternoon and her mother in-law was staying at home. At that time miscreants entered into the house breaking the main gate and looted cash Tk 2.2 million, saving certificates of Tk 5 million and gold 30 vori. The miscreants allegedly suffocated her to death.
