Higher punishment proposed for child, women traffickers

An inter-ministerial meeting at the home ministry Monday proposed higher punishment for recruiting agents involved in child and women trafficking, reports UNB.
The meeting was informed that operation of 11 recruiting agents was banned, security deposit of six forfeited and activities of seven others suspended from January to August this year for involvement in criminal activities.
It was viewed that Bangladeshis going abroad with tourist visa were subjected to untold miseries. Immigration office at Zia International Airport will be advised to monitor the recruiting agents who are sending job seekers to Malaysia and Maldives on tourist visa.
The meeting was informed that a total of 15 cases of child and women trafficking were filed in August across the country. Some 57 women and children fell victims of traffickers. Of them, 53 women and children were rescued and rehabilitated. Law enforcers arrested some 18 traffickers during the month.
