Highspeed to export ships to Japan

Highspeed Shipbuilding and Engineering Co Ltd, a leading shipbuilder of the country, will build ships for Japanese company Tokyo Freighting.
An MOA has been signed in this connection recently.
According to the deal, Highspeed Shipyard will be expanded as per requirement of Japanese Class NK to build dry cargo vessels and tankers ranging in capacity from 2000 DWT to 5000 DWT.
Tokyo Freighting would provide all designs and marine packages pertaining to the relevant vessels, the MOA reads.
Highspeed Shipyard will build these vessels under constant supervision of a Japanese manager and the vessels will be built under class.
It is also stipulated that Tokyo Freighting will supply required capital machinery for the shipyard and to be paid for by Highspeed.
Highspeed will develop their shipyard as per the lay-out already approved, which is now under process and expected to be completed by December '08.
Building of vessels will begin from January 2009 and first four vessels would be handed over in October. The remaining vessels will be delivered in every 6 (six) months, the contract mentioned.
The approximate cost of vessels shall range from USD 3.5 million to USD 7.5 million each depending on size and category.
Earlier, Highspeed jointly built a barge-mounted power station in collaboration with their technical partner in Japan- Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding Co Ltd (MES).
It was the first time that a barge-mounted power plant was built in Bangladesh.
This was a Tk 2.0 billion project financed by Asian Development Bank for Rural Power Company Ltd, a government undertaking.
The arrangement, scantling and welding of full structures were as per rules of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, Japanese International Classification Society.
