Hilly Fruit Fair kicks off today
FE REPORT | Tuesday, 1 July 2025
A five-day 'Hilly Fruit Fair-2025' begins today at the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Complex adjacent to the Officers Club in Dhaka's Bailey Road.
Organised by the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, the fair aims to showcase a diverse range of fruits and agricultural produce grown in the hilly districts of Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachhari. The event which offers free entry will remain open from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm until Saturday.
Supradip Chakma, adviser of the Ministry of the CHT Affairs, is scheduled to inaugurate the fair at 5:00 pm, while Md. Khaleque, secretary of the ministry, will preside over the inaugural session.
The fair will feature over 30 stalls, presenting an array of seasonal fruits native to the hilly regions. Among the highlights are: mangoes, jackfruits, pineapples, bananas, persimmons, rambutans and dragon fruit.
In addition to fruits, traditional vegetables, including bamboo shoots, turmeric, and ginger which are widely used in ethnic cuisines and increasingly popular in urban markets, will be displayed in several stalls.
Organisers hope that the event will encourage city dwellers to explore the nutritional value and commercial potential of hill-grown produce.
