Saturday, 18 October 2014

A suspected member of banned Islamic outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh sustained bullet injuries as police opened fire to disperse a procession of the group in the city's Mohammadpur area Friday, reports UNB.
The injured was identified as Nafiz, 25, son of Abdus Salam of Mohammadia Housing Society in Mohammadpur.
Police said a group of Tahrir men brought out a sudden procession on Iqbal Road under Mohammadpur Police Station after Jumma prayers.
When police tried to resist them, the activists of the banned group swooped on the law enforcers, said Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Tejgaon Division) Biplab Kumar Sarker.
At one stage, police fired rubber bullets to disperse the unruly Tahrir men that left Nafiz wounded while his accomplices fled the scene, the DC added.
Nafiz was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardi Hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 2:45 pm.
