HK records $7.05b surplus in balance of payments

HONG KONG, June 24 (Xinhua): Hong Kong recorded a 55 billion HK dollars (7.05 billion US dollars) surplus in its balance of payments account in the year's first quarter, 23.3 billion HK dollars less than the previous quarter, official figures released yesterday indicated.

Of the major balance of payments components, there was a current account surplus of 52.9 billion HK dollars and a net inflow of financial non-reserve assets amounting to 18.6 billion HK dollars, said the census and statistics department of the Hong Kong special administrative region government.

Overall, a combined visible and invisible trade surplus of 41 billion HK dollars was recorded, down on the 42.5 billion figure for the same quarter last year.
