Holcim Jury Board meeting held

The Jury Board Members of Holcim Green Built Bangladesh contest attended a meeting recently in a city hotel.
"Holcim Green Built Bangladesh" contest is an initiative of HoIcim (Bangladesh) Ltd, with the mission to create a culture of sustainable development by promoting the concept of "Green Built", catering to the needs of our present and future generations.
It is a national level contest and is open to all Bangladeshi Nationals above 18 years of age. The Total Prize value of the contest is BDT 2.0 million and under two categories - Built Projects and Idea projects. There will be a special prize for the special projects that didn't come within the mentioned prizes, said a press release.
The last date of Project Submission is Dec 31, 2009.
The current unplanned urbanization in the country has motivated Holcim Bangladesh to initiate such a program so that the country can be dreamt of being a Green Country.
Currently Bangladesh is under threat of pollution, natural disaster, energy shortage, uncontrollable traffic and limited natural resources. The motto of this contest is to come up with some effective projects and ideas that will lead to a planned development for the betterment of the next generations.
The renowned architect Bashirul Hoq chaired the Jury Board meeting.
The other Board Members are - Prof. Dr. M. Shamim Z. Bosunia, Professor - Department of Civil Engineering. BUET; Prof. Hamiduzzaman Khan, Chairman - Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Fine Art, DU; Prof. Shaheda Rahman, Head - Department of Architecture, BUET; Architect - Planner Prof. Dr. Roxana Hafiz, Professor Department of Urban & Regional Planning, BUET; Prof. Fuad H. Mallick, Head- Department of Architecture, BRAC University; Urban Planner - Architect A. H. Md. Maqsood Sinha, Executive Director - Waste Concern; and Prof. Dr. Munaz Ahmed Noor, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET.
Finance Minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, launched the contest at Radisson Water Garden Hotel August 20, 2009.
