Hold dialogue or face stir: BNP
Wednesday, 11 June 2014
The BNP will launch a movement if the government refuses a dialogue with it for holding a fresh election immediately, its spokesperson has said. ‘We want a fair and all-inclusive election immediately. That’s why our leader (Khaeda Zia) wants a dialogue to overcome the current crisis,’ BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Wednesday. At a meeting with an EU delegation on June 8, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said she was ready to hold talks anytime with the government for all-inclusive interim polls. Mirza Alamgir said the government did not respond to their demand for talks before the January 5 parliamentary elections. He said the talks with the ruling party, that was mediated by UN Assistant Secretary General Oscar Fernandez-Taranco before the elections, also yielded no result. Asked about the agenda of the dialogue, Mirza Alamgir said: ‘We have only one agenda – holding an all-inclusive election immediately,' according to bdnews24.com.
