Hold fresh election in Delhi: AAP
Thursday, 22 May 2014
NEW DELHI May 21 (Reuters): Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal sought fresh election in Delhi.
Kejriwal said: "We have decided that we will prepare for the elections (in Delhi). We will go among the people."
The announcement comes just days after the Lok Sabha election got over. The AAP won four parliamentary seats in Punjab and did not win any Lok Sabha seat in Delhi, where the party had made a stunning debut in last year's assembly election.
A meeting of the AAP legislators was held here at Kejriwal's residence.
Meanwhile: India's Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi is due to step down as the chief minister of western Gujarat state.
Mr Modi, who has ruled Gujarat for 12 years, led his BJP party to a landslide win in the recent election and will take the oath of office as India's new prime minister on 26 May.
Anandiben Patel, a senior Gujarat minister, is expected to succeed Mr Modi, media reports say. If that happens, Ms Patel will become the first woman leader of the state.
Mr Modi is expected to resign as the chief minister of Gujarat after attending a send-off organised by party legislators.
He will later attend a meeting of the BJP's legislature party where Anandiben Patel is likely to be chosen as his successor.
