Holding DITF virtually
Friday, 9 April 2021
Bangladesh has been witnessing an alarming surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths for the past few days. On Wednesday, the country recorded the highest number of cases in a single day since the outbreak of the pandemic in March last year. Considering the current situation, the authorities concerned have already postponed the 26th edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair. The popular fair, which draws a huge crowd every year, is normally organised in January. But this year, we do not yet know when the fair would start. We can very well understand the reason behind this postponement. But at the same time, we need to think over the losses the businessmen are going to incur as a result.
China's Canton Fair, a quite similar trade fair to the DITF, can be an example for us. The fair is held every spring and autumn in Guangzhou, China to strengthen Chinese relations with the international business community. However due to the ongoing pandemic, the fair has been organised online this year from April 15-24. Like China, we can arrange the DITF virtually. Instead of cancelling or postponing, the authorities can hold it online.
