Holi halts trading at Benapole

The export-import activities between Bangladesh and India through Benapole Land Port remained suspended from Sunday morning due to Holi festival in India. Kartik Chakrabarti, general secretary of Petrapole Port Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents Staff Welfare Association, said the Holi festival is being celebrated in India Sunday whereby they went off the work. About 1,500 goods-laden trucks got stranded in Petrapole following the suspension of the trading. The trading through the port will also remain halted on Monday, a public holiday in Bangladesh on the occasion of the birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said Benapole port sources. The export-import activities will resume on Tuesday, said the sources. Meanwhile, the port activities, including the loading and unloading of goods, at Benapole were normal on Sunday, said Benapole Land Port Director Dr Anwar Hossain Mallik, according to a news agency.
