Holidaymakers start returning to capital

The return journeys of Eid holidaymakers have started as the Eid-ul-Azha vacation has ended on Sunday morning. All government offices, scheduled banks, and most of the schools and other educational institutions open today. Bangladesh Railway began selling return tickets after Eid on Saturday from different rail stations in the country.
But some people who had failed to get tickets before the three-day Eid-ul-Azha holidays began on September 24, are trying to make it up by going back to their village homes now. However, the number of incoming people far outnumbers the outgoing ones.
Although the many people started returning to Dhaka to join their workplaces today, a majority of holidaymakers have stayed back and are likely to start their journey to Dhaka a few days later. Meanwhile, the city still has a deserted look with empty streets and closed shops. The gridlocks on the streets are no longer there and people reach destinations quickly.
Despite the trickle back of holidaymakers it can be safely assumed, from past experience, that it will take a week for the city to operate normally.
