Talha Bin Habib | Sunday, 26 August 2018

City dwellers started returning to the capital on Saturday after celebrating Eid-ul-Azha with their near and dear ones at their village home.
All the government and private offices will reopen today (Sunday) after the five-day Eid holiday (including Friday and Saturday).
During visit to Kamalapur Railway Station, Dhaka River Port Terminal at Sadarghat and Sayedabad, Mohakhali and Gabtoli bus terminals on Saturday, the FE correspondent saw holidaymakers arriving in the capital city.
Most of them said they did not face any hassle while returning to the city.
Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslims, was celebrated on August 22. The holiday started on August 21 and ended on August 25.
Workers and day-labourers said they returned to the city as early as possible to earn their bread and butter.
"I came back to the capital for the sake of my livelihood," said Rashid Mian, a day-labourer who arrived in Kamalapur Railway Station from Rangpur.
"I did not face any trouble while returning to Dhaka from Barishal after celebrating Eid with my family members," Jabbar Sikder, a small trader, told the FE at Sadarghat on Saturday afternoon.
"It took me around four hours to arrive in the capital from Noakhali," Md Khokon a private service-holder who arrived at Sayedabad bus terminal on the day from Sonapur of Noakhali, told the FE.
Though a significant number of city dwellers arrived in the city, many are still staying at their village home to spend some more days  with their relatives.
As a result, the city still looks deserted even after the five-day Eid holiday.
There was no traffic congestion on city roads. Commuters could easily reach their destinations on time as there was no traffic gridlock.
"It took me only 30 minutes to reach Purana Paltan from Uttara," Moinuddin Sarcar, a trader, told the FE on Saturday.
The capital city will hum again with life within next few days after the rest of holidaymakers return to Dhaka.
