Holy Ashura observed

Sunday, 19 December 2010

The holy Ashura was observed across the country Friday commemorating the Karbala tragedy over 1350 years ago in which Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) embraced martyrdom fighting for truth and justice, reports UNB.
On the 10th of Muharram in the Hijri year 61, Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family members and followers died in the hands of the soldiers of
Yazid at the battle of Karbala on the bank of Euphrates.
While on a journey towards Kufa, Imam Hossain (RA), his family members and followers were ambushed by the forces of Yazid at Karbala in Iraq. They were deprived of food and water, and many of them were put to death.
Eventually, Imam Hossain (RA) was brutally slaughtered. According to Islamic history, a disagreement among Muslims on the question of succession after the demise of Hazrat Ali, the fourth caliph, resulted in the Karbala tragedy.
Shi'a Muslims brought out the largest procession known as Tazia from Imambara at Hussaini Dalan in old part of the capital.
