Holy Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated

The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest Islamic festivals, was celebrated across the country Thursday amid due religious fervour and festivity, marking the end of month-long fasting, reports UNB.
Devotees said their Eid prayer and then embraced one another to demonstrate the spirit of fraternity and amity. The main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah in the city at 8:30am, with VIPs as well as people of all strata of society offering prayer there under a tight security cover.
President Prof Iajuddin Ahmed, Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed, Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Chief Justice MM Ruhul Amin, Deputy Speaker Akther Hamid Siddiqui, advisers, DCC Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, judges, political leaders, and people from all walks of life joined the Eid congregation.
Acting Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Mufti Nuruddin conducted the Eid prayer seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country, welfare of the people and greater unity of the Muslim ummah.
Several congregations were held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Eid prayers were also offered at mosques and makeshift eidgahs elsewhere in the city and across the country.
Under a government-announced programme, the national flag was hoisted atop public and private buildings on the Eid day. The main thoroughfares starting from Dhaka Gate at Banani to Bangabhaban and the road islands were decorated with the national flag and banners inscribed with 'Eid Mubarak' in Bangla and Arabic.
Meanwhile, more than 3,50,000 Muslim devotees thronged Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj for the largest Eid congregation in the country.
President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed and his wife Professor Dr Anwara Begum hosted a reception at Bangabhaban Thursday for the dignitaries and foreign diplomats on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
Divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, UNOs or local-government institutions also arranged functions in keeping with the national programmes.
Bangladesh missions abroad also celebrated the occasion in the light of the government-announced programmes.
