Homage paid to Hanif

Hundreds of people paid homage to former mayor of Dhaka City Corporation Mohammad Hanif on the 8th death anniversary of the Awami League leader who died from the wounds sustained in the grenade attacks on an AL rally in front of the party headquarters at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city on August 21 in 2004. AL President Sheikh Hasina was injured in the grenade attacks that also left over 100 others, including Mohila Awami League chief Ivy Rahman, killed and about 600 injured. Marking the death anniversary of Hanif, the former president of Dhaka City unit of AL and the 1st elected mayor of the DCC, a milad mahfil was held at the central AL office follwed by munajat. His followers and several hundred AL activists went to his grave, offered jiarat and placed flowers. They also joined Quran Khwani and a doa mahfil held in different parts of the city on Nov 28. AL, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, Sramik League and the DCC unit of AL placed floral wreaths at the alter of the portrait of Mohammad Hanif at Bangabandhu Avenue. Different political, socio-cultural organizations and professional bodies also chalked out separate programmes in observance of his death anniversary, according to a news agency.
