A number of fresh and enthusiastic entrepreneurs in Bangladesh have come up with a novel service business like home delivery where they deliver the ready-made food items collected from different restaurants to customers staying either at home or working at office. It has already become largely accepted among people, particularly who are living in cities like Dhaka and Chittagong.
The small companies who are involved in this business and running it, are privately owned. All of them are online-based service companies. They basically work as middlemen between the customers and the food-making restaurants. The core thing they do is taking order from around the city via phone calls or mails and place orders accordingly to the restaurants to prepare the items. After the food is prepared, the delivery men of the companies collect the food from the restaurants and deliver the same to the respective customers who ordered for it. In return, they set a charge on top of the price of the food and that is how they ensure their profit. Generally they take an hour from taking the order from the customers to delivering them the ordered foods. Customers who order the foods while staying at home or at office, do not want to take the trouble of going to restaurants in person and instead enjoy the food staying at home or office with more ease and comfort.
The forerunners in this particular service business are operating themselves successfully through the Internet using their websites and Facebook pages. At present they cover the areas like Gulshan, Banani, Dhanmondi, Uttara, Mirpur and Bashundhara Residential Area of Dhaka metropolis and some areas of Chittagong city. But there are still a lot of people living outside these areas who look for such services. The home delivery service of ready-made food items can be an attractive choice for many entrepreneurs who are thinking of starting a business of their own with a small investment.
