The agitating students of the city's Home Economics College (HEC), Azimpur removed the roadblock after the authorities assured them of lowering the increased session fee Sunday noon.
Hundreds of students of the college demonstrated inside and outside the institution demanding withdrawal of the increased session charges since Sunday. The disgruntled students also abandoned the in-course examinations of all departments.
At one stage, the agitating students came out of the campus and barricaded the road creating an acute gridlock in the entire area including Nilkhet, New Market, Elephant Road and Mirpur Road until 1:30 pm.
"The authorities have increased our session fee by Tk 505 this year compared to that of last year without mentioning any specific sector of the fee hike and without talking to us,", Food and Nutrition Department student Farhana told reporters.
"We do not enjoy any facility and yet the authorities are charging us for medical facility, reading material, computer lab and common room," Farhana added.
The students were really furious when college Principal Laila Arjumand Banu told them the college authorities could do nothing as the fee had been increased according to a government notification.
