Homelessness for Jamuna erosion

Sunday, 6 October 2019

Despite appeals to save victims of river erosion on the bank of the Jamuna, no effective step has yet been taken by the authorities concerned. Many people living on two sides of the mighty river are facing risks of losing homes, schools, market places and farmland due to continued erosion during rainy and autumn seasons in the past few years. Some homeless people now live on roads as they cannot afford to buy land for making new houses. The situation is the outcome of lack of proper river control and dredging, according to experts. We, as inhabitants of the river bank area, call upon the government to take necessary steps to protect the villages and people from further erosion.
