Hosaf Group refutes report on coalmine project

Thursday, 1 November 2007

Hosaf Group in a statement Wednesday strongly protested some comments published in a national daily on Monday about involvement of its managing director Moazzam Hossain in awarding a contract to a Chinese company by the Petrobangla, said a press release issued by Emdadul Hoq, chief engineer, Hosaf International Limited.
The company said both the coal mine and the coal power plant were financed by the Chinese government under the supplier's credit to the Bangladesh government, the press release said.
"After observing formalities by both the governments, the contract was signed between Petrobangla and the Chinese company for the development of coal mine and for the coal-based power plant", it noted.
The press release said, "Hosaf does not have any contractual obligation for the said above projects. Moreover, Hosaf never interfered in the implementation of the contractual obligation between both the parties for the above projects.
"Hence, the comments on Hosaf have no credibility. The parties concerned are responsible for the implementation of the contract."
