JHENIDAH, July 20: A 20-bed hospital at Hatgopalpur Bazar under Jhenidah Sadar upazila is yet to be constructed after nine years of its laying foundation causing sufferings to thousands of treatment-seekers of three unions of the upazila.
Hatgopalpur bazar, a mini commercial hub, is an entrance for around 50,000 people from three unions of Jhenidah Sadar and one union of Magura Sadar upazila.
Considering medical facilities of the people of Padmakor, Dogasi and Horishankorpur unions, three acres of land was acquired in 2006 on the western side of Hatgopalpur bazaar and foundation stone was laid for a 20-bed hospital at the bazar.
However, as its construction work did not proceed further, the people of the region are compelled to rush to either 15-km distant Jhenidah Sadar Hospital or Magura Sadar Hospital, which is 16-km far from the bazar.
While talking to the FE correspondent, many locals noted despite the present government's laying emphasis on health sector, the move to build a hospital at Hatgopalpur bazaar still remains in files for nine long years.
Surgeon of Jhenidah Sadar hospital Abdus Salam, while contacted, told this correspondent if the proposed 20-bed hospital is made at Hatgopalpur bazar, scores of patients rushing to the hospital will decrease.
Many people from around Hatgopalpur bazaar urged the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to immediately establish the proposed 20-bed hospital to reach treatment facilities to the door-step of the people.
