Tuesday, 9 October 2007

Bangladesh forced formidable Tajikistan to 1-1 goal draw in their Pre World Cup Qualifier round match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Monday, reports UNB.
This was the first draw for Bangladesh against Tajikistan out of the four encounters. Earlier, Bangladesh suffered an identical 0-2 goals defeat in the prior home and away basis Pre World Cup qualifier matches and 1-6 in the AFC Challenge Cup here last year.
In the day's match, midfielder Zumratul Hossain Mithu scored first for Bangladesh while striker Numondzhon Hakimov netted for Tajikistan.
After the barren first half, Mithu put Bangladesh ahead in the 50th minute by a placing shot from just a handshake distance off a Zahid Hossain shot from the goal mouth melee (1-0)
Numondzhon Hakimov equalised in the 57th minute from a penalty kick. Tajikistan got the spot kick as Zahid Hossain fouled an opponent defender inside the danger zone. Oman Referee Mohammad Hilali made no mistake to award the penalty in favour of Tajikistan.
Bangladesh launched several attacks in the rain soaked ground and spoiled some scoring chances.
Tajikistan failed to create any scoring chances except scoring a face saving goal.
Bangladesh came close to score in the 36th minute but striker Saifur Rahman Moni failed to push the ball off Zahid's right cross from a vantage position.
Bangladesh again got chance in the 45th minute but midfielder Zahid Hossain's close range shot but it was weak to beat custodian Mukanin.
Mithu missed another scoring chance in the 47th minute as his close range header off defender Rajani's left wing throw gripped by opponent custodian Mukanin.
Bangladesh coach Syed Nayeemuddin later talking to reporters expressed satisfaction over his boys performance and gave all the credit to the team.
He said the team fought all through and the boys deserved win over Tajikistan.
Tajikistan coach Makhmadjon Khabibulloev said his boys were least used to play in rains that affected their performance.
Scorer Zumratul Hossain Mithu overwhelmed with joy said, "the day's result has bossed our moral and mental courage and we will be able to play good football in future."
This was the second international goal for Mithu after the first one against Singapore in the recently concluded Nehru Cup in India.
