Hosts rebound against Sri Lanka in tour match

ADELAIDE (Australia), Oct 28 (AP): Lloyd Mash scored 95 runs and Tom Plant was 63 not out as the Cricket Australia Chairman's XI reached 262-4 at stumps Sunday on a rain-interrupted second day of a three-day tour match against Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka declared its first innings closed at 358-6 early in the morning session at the Adelaide Oval after losing two wickets including Thilan Samaraweera for 71.
Veteran openers Sanath Jayasuriya (154) and Marvan Atapattu (56) led the first day's batting for the visitors, while Aaron Heal and Doug Bollinger took three wickets each for the Chairman's XI.
Spinner Muttiah Muralitharan -- 1-87 in 30 overs -- waited until the penultimate over of the day for a wicket, having New South Wales teenager Philip Hughes (49) stumped.
Muralitharan, on 700 test wickets, will attempt to overtake retired Australian legspinner Shane Warne's record of 708 during Sri Lanka's two-test series against Australia. The first test begins Nov. 8 in Brisbane, the second Nov 16 in Hobart.
