Hotel Purbani MD Joynal surrenders, Niki arrested

Hotel Purbani International Managing Director (MD) Mahbubur Rahman Joynal, accused in four cases, surrendered in court Sunday, reports bdnews24.com.
His girlfriend Jannatul Ferdous Niki was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), an officer told the news agency.
The RAB had earlier widened its hunt for the businessman and his girlfriend as they were accused of having close link to Yaba trade.
As part of the drive against Yaba traders, a RAB-3 team raided the house of Joynal in Dhanmondi Monday to arrest Niki, a model.
Lawyers alleged that Niki was dragged away by security forces from the court premises in Old Dhaka, when she tried to surrender.
Several lawyers said Niki was seen on the court premises, but later she 'remained untraced' when the hearing took off in court.
Her lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun said, "We came to court to seek justice, but that was not possible. Jannatul Ferdous was illegally dragged away by the security officers."
Major Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, an officer of RAB-3, confirmed the arrest of Niki, but refused to confirm from where she was arrested.
He said a formal announcement would be made soon.
