Housewife awarded life term for killing her husband

BARISAL, Nov 1 (UNB): A court here Wednesday convicted a housewife and sentenced her to life term imprisonment for killing her husband in 2003.
The convict is Nasima Begum (50) of Islampur village under Babuganj Upazila. The court also fined her Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer one year more in jail.
Judge of the First Additional District and Sessions Judge court Siddiqul Arefin Chowdhury handed down the verdict in presence of the convict.
According to the prosecution, Nasima, mother of six children, had extra marital affairs with her brother-in-law (sister's husband) Ali Hossain Fakir.
As Nasima's husband Shahadat (60) raised objection about the relationship, Nasima and Ali Hossain chopped Shahadat to death on October 7, 2003. Local people caught Nasima and handed her over to police.
Nasima gave confessional statement to a magistrate on October 9 and Sub-Inspector S M Mainul Islam, investigation officer of the case, submitted charge sheet against both the accused on November 11, 2003.
Ali Hossain died in 2006 before the end of the trial and after examining 16 witnesses and records, the judge pronounced the verdict.
