Housewife beaten dead for dowry

A young housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband and the members of his family for dowry money in Alamdanga Upazila in Chuadanga district on Friday. The deceased was identified as Shahida Khatun, 26, wife of Ratan of Shalika village of the Upazila. Locals said Ratan, son of Selim Hossain, had married Shahida, daughter of Sahed Ali Mandal, a year ago and since then he had been torturing her over dowry. On Friday afternoon, Ratan and his family members beat Shahida over a demand of Tk 150,000 dowry money. As she refused to bring the money, they strangulated Shahida to death. Later they hanged the body with the ceiling of the house and went into hiding. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chuadanga Hospital for autopsy. Nazmul Haque, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga Police Station, said Shahida might have been killed over dowry, according to UNB.
