Housewife killed allegedly by husband for dowry in city

A woman was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband at Mirpur in Dhaka city on Friday. The victim was identified as Mitu Akhter, 25, wife of Sabuj Miah, a resident of Mirpur Sector-11. Locals found her body packed in a plastic sack lying in front of her rented residence at Parish Road in Mirpur-11. Being informed, a team of Pallabi Police Station rushed to the spot and recovered the body from inside the plastic sack around 7:30am. Her husband Sabuj, who rented the house a few months ago, remained absconding since morning. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Sources at the DMCH said there were injuries marks on the neck of Mitu Akhter. Victim’s family members alleged that Sabuj had long been demanding dowry from Mitu’s family. He killed her following the failure to pay him the dowry, they said, according to a news agency.
