Housewife killed in Sirajganj for dowry

A housewife was strangulated to death in Tarash Upazila in Sirajganj allegedly by her husband and his family members for dowry on Wednesday night. The victim was identified as Ripa Khatun, 25, daughter of Abdur Rahman of Jhaldhaka village of Nilphamari district. Locals said Monirul Islam of Shakuri village of Sirajganj district married Ripa three years back. They said Monir and his family members used to torture Ripa physically and mentally for dowry since their marriage. As a sequel to the quarrel, they strangulated Ripa and poured pesticide into her mouth, leaving her dead on the spot. Being informed, police recovered the body on Thursday. Police arrested victim’s mother-in-law Monwara Begum and brother-in-law Junaid Ali in connection with the incident, according to a news agency.
