BOGRA, Feb 4 (UNB): A housewife was stabbed to death allegedly by one of her neighbours over extortion at Hapunia Matpara village in Sherpur upazila on Monday.
The victim was identified as Salma Begum, 35, wife of Manur Uddin, a resident of the village.
Manir said Salma received about Tk 0.15 million from land sale from her father some days back and since then her neighbour Enamul, son of Motaleb Hossain, started pressing her to give him a certain amount of money, which she ignored.
At one stage, Enamul stabbed Salma indiscriminately at a shop close to her house around 10:00 am and ran away, leaving her critically injured.
She was rushed to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared her dead.
Sherpur Police Station inspector (Investigation) Mizanur Rahman said the killing might have occurred over extortion or disputed land.
They were trying to arrest Enamul, he added.
