How former students can help the present ones develop confidence

FE Special | Sunday, 13 July 2008

CONFIDENCE is crucial for success in student life. Students receive confidence from various sources-from parents, teachers, classmates, seniors. One of the most attractive way of gaining confidence for them is interaction with the former students of the institute. The relationship between the current students and the old students can help the first ones gain confidence for success in life.

The success stories of the previous students can be inspiring for the current students. If the former students who are enjoying success in their career often visit their own institute and talk to the current students, the later will be charmed up. They will also gain confidence: " If my senior brothers or senior sisters can succeed, why not me?" Also, the current students will get the opportunity to seek suggestion about career and thus can have better knowledge about professional life. When they will have more knowledge, they will surely be clear about road to success and will be motivated to put efforts for success.

The alumni organisation need to be in touch with the institute. They need to visit their own institute on their own. In case they cannot, they need to keep communication with their institute by phone, email or any other way convenient. Also, they can often write about their success stories for the students of the institute which can be displayed on the notice board of the institute or can be included in the publication or website of the institute. The current students will surely be more confident by reading this type of success stories.

In many cases, former students look for ways to do good to their own institute. But sometimes they feel shy. Here comes the role of the institute to break the ice. It is the institute that may invite and welcome the old pupils and create environment for interaction with the current ones.

As for reputed universities in the developed countries, there are strong alumni organisations which are in continuous touch with the institute. The former students advise to the current students about their career, donate money for the welfare of the current students. All these contribute to the confidence building process of the present students.

Confidence is a continuous habit in life. It is crucial that the former students repay part of their debts to their alma mater by being in touch with it and thus help the present students to keep up their confidence. The return is very rewarding for the old students-they will enjoy and be benefitted from the increasing fame of the institute.
